Come join us July 8th at 2 PM, in honor of Independence Day, Garden Gallery and French Prairie Living will be having a special presentation by one of our veterans who served our country in Afghanistan, the Middle East and Asia. Grant McGregor is a proud American who has had many experiences to share about his missions and his men with whom he served.
He now resides in the Charbonneau neighborhood, has a beautiful wife and 3 darling daughters. He continues to serve in the Washington Army National Guard where he is assigned to the Special Operations Detachment and focused on providing ad hoc support to the NATO Special Operations Headquarters.
Grant McGregor left Oregon to pursue a degree in international business at Whitworth University. The 9/11 terrorist attacks occurred his first week of classes and changed the direction he would take after college. That term, he joined the ROTC commissioning program through Gonzaga University and upon graduation, entered the Army as a second lieutenant. In his initial role, he led the support platoon for a cavalry squadron based out of Texas. Grant deployed with this unit to Iraq in 2006 and returned 15 months later after the shift in strategy and surge of forces dramatically reduced the violence.
Wanting to make a larger impact, he applied for the Special Forces and was selected to attend the year and a half long training. After earning his ‘Green Beret’, he was stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McCord in Washington, where he went on to lead teams throughout the Middle East and Asia. His longest deployment as a Special Forces officer was 12 months to Southeastern Afghanistan where his team was responsible for building capable security forces, mentoring government officials and investing in sustainable development projects. Grant deployed many times during their time in Washington and enjoyed being a part of a larger mission. His greatest memories are of the men with whom he served. He continues to serve in the Washington Army National Guard where he is assigned to the Special Operations Detachment and focused on providing ad hoc support to the NATO Special Operations headquarters.
